Training

Overview
It is essential that those with day to day supervisory or management responsibility have a good working knowledge of employment law. We run one day in-house and external employment law training course for all levels of management.

Types of Course
Our Introduction to Employment Law course is aimed at those who are new to the subject and need an overview of the main employment protection legislation, with an emphasis on explaining employee rights and employer responsibilities.

Our Advanced Employment Law course is aimed at those who need to know about employment rights in a more detail and from an operational perspective. The emphasis here is on motivating staff, gaining an understanding of the ins and outs of contracts of employment, company rules, and disciplinary and warning procedures; as well as handling common workplace problems, such as poor performance, absenteeism, insubordination, etc.

In all cases delegates get an opportunity to get answers to sensitive questions and are able to discuss staffing problems privately with an experienced employment law adviser.

In-house Courses
Courses are held at the request of a particular employer, who may invite other employers to participate in order to spread the costs.

The Training Programme is drawn up in consultation with the host employer, who can ask for topics that are of particular relevance to his business to be included.

Course can be held at weekends in order to minimise disruption to normal business.

Cost
The charge for an in-house course is £50 per delegate, with a minimum charge of £280 (PLUS expenses) per course. The host employer is responsible for providing a suitable venue, refreshments, etc., and for paying the fees for all those attending the course. We supply the trainer, presentation aids, course handouts, etc.

External Courses
External courses are demand led and are held only when sufficient delegates have registered. To be viable a course needs a minimum of ten delegates. Also we generally limit the number of delegates to 18, to ensure that delegates will have the opportunity to raise issues that concern them.

Each course is generally held once every six months (except London where courses are held more frequently) in central locations throughout the country.

The locations  where courses are currently held are:

London (every three months)

Birmingham  *  Bristol  *  Edinburgh  *  Leeds  *  Manchester  * Newcastle  *  Oxford  *  Southampton  *

Delegates are encouraged to suggest topics for inclusion in the programme.

Cost
The cost is £95 (ex VAT) per delegate, payable in advance, and includes course material and refreshments. Accommodation is not included and it a matter for the delegate to arrange.
